Osun Poll: Adeogun Condemns Neglect Of Support Groups Members

The Deputy Director-General, Southwest, All Progressives Congress Support Groups Council (APC-SGC), Ambassador Adewale Adeogun, has expressed disappointment over what he described as the neglect and poor treatment of Support Groups members before, during and after the just-concluded Osun State Governorship Election.
Adeogun, who spoke shortly after the declaration of the election results, lamented that members of various Support Groups who had worked tirelessly in support of the party and its electoral mobilisation efforts were allegedly left without adequate welfare and support at critical moments.
The APC-SGC Southwest Deputy Director-General had, in the weeks preceding the election, mobilised and coordinated various support groups across Osun State as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots participation and support for the party.
However, according to him, the enthusiasm and commitment displayed by members were not matched by the necessary attention and welfare from some of the party leaders responsible for coordinating the process.
Addressing scores of Support Groups members after the election, Adeogun said the experience had become a matter of serious concern that required urgent attention from the party’s national leadership.
He consequently vowed to personally meet with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, to present the concerns of the support groups and seek institutional solutions to the challenges confronting members.
Adeogun stressed that support groups remain an important component of the party’s grassroots mobilisation structure and should not be treated as expendable only during election periods.
«“We can not continue to mobilise people for the party and abandon them when they need support the most. These men and women give their time, energy, and resources because they believe in the party and its leadership,” Adeogun said.»
He maintained that the party has the capacity to provide appropriate welfare and motivation for support group members who contribute to its mobilisation activities.
According to him, the problem is not necessarily the absence of resources but the manner in which available resources are handled and distributed by some leaders.
Adeogun expressed concern that what he described as greed, arrogance, and poor coordination among some leaders could further damage the confidence of Support Groups members if urgent corrective measures were not taken.
He warned that continued neglect could have broader consequences for the party, particularly at the grassroots level, where support groups play significant roles in mobilisation, communication, and voter engagement.
The APC-SGC chieftain, however, emphasised that his position was not aimed at creating division within the party but at drawing attention to issues that could undermine the effectiveness of the Support Groups structure if left unresolved
He appealed to the party leadership to regard support group members as genuine stakeholders in the political process and to establish a more transparent and coordinated framework for their engagement and welfare.
Adeogun further called for better communication between the party leadership, Support Groups leadership, and grassroots members, stressing that expectations should be clearly defined before major political assignments.
He said the experience in Osun should serve as a lesson for future elections and political engagements, particularly as the party prepares for subsequent electoral activities.
The Southwest APC-SGC leader assured members that their concerns would not be ignored, promising to take the matter directly to the national leadership.
He expressed optimism that the intervention of the National Chairman would help address the grievances and prevent a recurrence of what he described as an unfortunate experience.
Adeogun reaffirmed his commitment to the Support Groups family, saying that the collective strength of the party depends significantly on the commitment, loyalty, and mobilisation capacity of its grassroots structures.
“Our responsibility now is to learn from what happened, correct the gaps, and ensure that no Support Group member who contributes to the success of the party is taken for granted,” he added.
