Nigeria, elderstateman and business mogul, Alhaji Sufianu Kazeem, has carpeted the Archbishop Emeritus of Catholic Diocese of Abuja, John Onaiyekan, cardinal, for his role inn the recent backlash on the presidency.
Kazeem, while speaking with journalists in Ibadan, said the aftermath comments and actions of the clerics were not necessary.
The CBCN, led by its President, Matthew Ndagoso, met with President Tinubu, during which it outlined areas of concern in the country, which include security, quality tertiary education and limited spaces, sustaining gains of democracy, credible elections, and poverty.
In an interview with Arise TV recently, Mr Onaiyekan, who was part of the delegation, recounted how the president argued with the delegation on the state of the nation.
Mr Onaiyekan, during the interview, said the president’s reaction suggested that those around him were not giving him an accurate picture of the hardship Nigerians are experiencing.
He said President Tinubu’s facial expression showed dissatisfaction with the bishops’ assessment of the economy and that, instead of accepting their concerns, he argued that the country’s economy was improving.

He querried the genuiness and open heartedness of the bishops judging by the intrigues that trailed their visit.
He stated that the bishops who intentionally presented what they know the president is already addressing do in order to satisfy their political mentees and not in the interest of Nigerians.
Kazeem said many of them had enjoyed various forms of goodies from the federal government in the time past, but has now become antagonists of president because of their political godson.
The elder statesman said the bishops can only condemn but unable to proffer meaningful solutions to various problems confronting Nigerians.
He said the bishops only focused on the country’s problems and chose not to look at the achievements of the Tinubu administration.
He explained that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains the best president in this dispensation, arguing that here had been measurable improvements in the country, particularly in the regular payment of salaries and pensions, saying the gains should not be dismissed simply because significant challenges remained.
The one-time close associates of late MKO Abiola said the bishops themselves should appreciate the restoration of greater fiscal stability across many states, adding that they should desist from being the megaphone of a politician.
“We are in this country when a former president, Christian Association of Nigeria, allowed his plane to be used to took a lot of dollars to South Africa during the time of President Goodluck Jonathan.
“None of these Bishops came.out to condemn that. The Federal Government has expended a lot of money on pilgrimage, both for Christians and Muslims. None of the bishops raised any concern about it. God will surely judge all of them.
Kazeem said that there were rumours that Catholic Church had openly supported the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during the 2023 general election, and therefore, yet to get over the 2023 defeat
Kazeem further buttress the reactions of the presidency and accused the cleric of applying a double standard by encouraging believers to make positive confessions despite difficult circumstances while criticising the government’s optimistic assessment of the economy.
