Protest Erupts in Northern Nigeria by Muslims Over Killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei by US and Israel
Protests erupted in several Northern Nigerian states, including Sokoto, Niger State, and Kano, as Muslims reacted to the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint US-Israeli airstrike.
In Sokoto, members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) took to the streets, condemning the attack and expressing solidarity with Iran. Similarly, in Niger State, Shiites mobilized, chanting slogans like “freedom to Iran, death to America” and waving Iranian flags.
In Kano, hundreds of IMN members marched peacefully, holding Iranian flags and portraits of Khamenei, and expressing their desire to mourn peacefully. The demonstrations were part of a broader international reaction to Khamenei’s death, with mourners gathering in Iran’s capital, Tehran, and other cities, including Qom and Mashhad, to pay their respects.
The Iranian government has declared a 40-day national mourning period and a seven-day official holiday.
