Crisis In PDP As Muftwang, Fintiri Rubbishes Makinde, George, Mohammed Over Expulsion Of Wike, Fayose
The Governors of Plateau and Adamawa states have condemned the expulsion of former Governors Nyesom Wike, Ayodele Fayose and a group of other stakeholders from the People’s Democratic Party by the Seyi Makinde-led National Convention.
At its ongoing 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday, the PDP expelled Wike, Fayose, suspended PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, former National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), and Senator Mao Ohuabunwa for alleged anti-party activities.
The motion for their expulsion was moved by former PDP Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Bode George, and seconded by the Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Samaila Buga.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, subsequently put the motion to a voice vote
It was overwhelmingly endorsed by the delegates, signalling the party’s intent to tackle internal dissent and anti-party behaviour.
Reacting to the development in a statement posted on his official X handle on Saturday, Fintiri described the expulsion as contrary to the PDP’s best interests and warned that the move could deepen the party’s ongoing crises.
The governor stressed that the decision was not in the party’s interest and reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP’s stability.
He wrote, “I, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State, wish to categorically state that I dissociate myself from the position of expelling the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Wike, from the PDP.
“I believe that this decision is not in the best interest of the party, and I will not be party to any attempt that could further plunge the PDP into unending crisis.
“As a faithful party member, my position is clear: I stand for the peace and stability of the PDP, and I will not support anything that could lead to its disintegration.”
Similarly, his Plateau State counterpart, Mutfwang, distanced himself from the party’s decision. In a statement issued on Saturday by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the governor clarified that the issue was never discussed by the PDP Governors’ Forum or the National Executive Committee before the motion for expulsion was presented. He stressed that the proposal does not reflect his position.
The statement read, “The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has formally distanced himself from the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, alongside other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”
Mutfwang reiterated that the matter was neither deliberated upon by the Governors’ Forum nor the NEC before being brought to the convention floor.
