Abeokuta, Ogun State – In a powerful demonstration of faith, patriotism, and unity, the Ogun State Government yesterday, Friday, September 26, 2025, hosted a special Jum’ah Service and Prayer to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary. The historic service was held at the revered Kobiti Central Mosque, the spiritual heart of Egbaland, and drew together distinguished political leaders, eminent Islamic clerics, and respected community figures.
At the center of attention was the presence of Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola, OFR, Nigeria’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (2021–2023) and the revered Baba Adinni of Ogun State and Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States. His attendance lent both spiritual and diplomatic weight to the occasion, as he stood as a symbol of faith, service, and continuity in leadership.
The Chief Imam of Egbaland, Sheikh Sa’adallah Alade Bamgbola, led the congregation in soul-stirring prayers, invoking Allah’s mercy and blessings upon Ogun State and Nigeria. Alongside him were respected Islamic leaders of Egbaland and the Baba Adinni of Egbaland, Rtd. Navy Captain Rasheed Adisa Raji, who led the Muslim Council of Chiefs in reinforcing the message of unity, peace, and nation-building.
The Ogun State Government was duly represented by Her Excellency, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, FNSE, Deputy Governor of Ogun State, who conveyed the goodwill and message of Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON. Also present were the Chief of Staff, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo, the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Olufemi Onasanya, and other top functionaries including permanent secretaries and senior civil servants.
From the National Assembly came notable lawmakers: Distinguished Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, FNCS, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, and Hon. Afolabi Moruf Afuape, Member representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency. Their presence further highlighted the bond between political leadership and spiritual grounding in commemorating Nigeria’s sovereignty.
For Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola, the Jum’ah Service was not just a gathering of prayer but a reaffirmation of the role of faith in governance and national development. Widely respected as both a statesman and spiritual leader, his presence at Kobiti Central Mosque underscored the need for Nigeria to continue drawing strength from spiritual values while charting its political and developmental future.
In his capacity as Baba Adinni of Ogun State, Ambassador Isola’s attendance symbolized unity across ethnic and regional lines. His diplomatic background, combined with his deep-rooted religious influence, reflects the kind of bridge-building leadership required in contemporary Nigeria.
As prayers rose for Nigeria’s peace, prosperity, and stability, the Jum’ah Service at Kobiti Central Mosque became more than an Independence Day ritual – it was a convergence of diplomacy, politics, religion, and community spirit. The call to Allah on behalf of the nation carried the hopes of millions, with Ogun State positioning itself as a beacon of faith-driven governance and inclusive celebration.
