Breaking: Ogun State Government Postpones Democracy Day Celebration

The Ogun State government has postpone
activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration earlier scheduled to take place at the June 12 Cultural centre.

In a release late Thursday night and signed by the secretary to the state government, Tokunbo Talabi tittled:

RE: SPECIAL OBSERVANCE OF THE 2026 DEMOCRACY DAY (JUNE 12) CELEBRATION IN OGUN STATE

The Ogun State Government hereby informs public servants, stakeholders, development partners, and members of the general public that the 2026 Democracy Day celebration in the State will be observed in a special and reflective manner.

Consequently, the activities earlier outlined for the commemoration of Democracy Day on June 12 will no longer hold in their originally planned format.

This decision was reached after careful consideration of prevailing national circumstances and in recognition of the need for collective responsibility and sensitivity at this time.

While June 12 remains a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic history and a symbol of the people’s enduring commitment to democratic ideals, the State Government has deemed it appropriate to mark the occasion in a more solemn and restrained manner.

The observance will provide an opportunity for reflection on the gains of democracy, the sacrifices of its heroes, and the collective responsibility of all citizens to continue supporting good governance, peace, and development.

The Government appreciates the understanding, cooperation, and continued support of all stakeholders and residents as we commemorate this important national day.

We thank the people of Ogun State for their unwavering commitment to the progress, unity, and prosperity of our dear State.

E-Signed

Mr. Tokunbo Talabi
Secretary to the State Government
