Jagz Hotel targets AfCFTA opportunities, unveils new GM, rebrands for expansion

By Ibukun Emiola

Jagz Hotel, Ibadan, says it is positioning itself to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and growing borderless movement across the continent.

The hotel made this known on Monday during a news conference to unveil its new General Manager, Mr Jonathan Odia, and launch a new brand identity.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director, Mr Gbenga Agbomoagan, said increasing economic integration, trade and visa-free travel arrangements among African countries were creating new opportunities for the hospitality industry.

According to him, hospitality brands must evolve to meet the needs of a new generation of African and international travellers as cross-border business activities continue to increase under frameworks such as AfCFTA.

Agbomoagan said the hotel was positioning itself as an emerging African hospitality brand with ambitions extending beyond Nigeria.

“The more African countries open their borders and encourage free movement, the greater the demand for quality hospitality services.

“That is why we are positioning Jagz to take advantage of a borderless African economy and become a leading hospitality destination on the continent,” he said.

He noted that the hotel’s expansion plans included Abuja and other strategic locations across Africa, adding that the company aimed to support the growth in tourism, trade and business travel expected from deeper continental integration.

Agbomoagan said the hotel’s vision was to build a hospitality institution capable of hosting premium events, international conferences and world-class experiences across Africa.

He added that Jagz would host the Jagz Hospitality Conference 2026 to facilitate discussions on the future of hospitality, economic development and industry resilience in Africa.

He said the rebranding reflected a renewed commitment to innovation, excellence and continuous improvement in service delivery.

The MD further said the transformation would introduce refreshed guest experiences, enhanced amenities and improved facilities while preserving the warmth and quality associated with the brand.

He also formally introduced Odia as the new General Manager, describing him as an experienced hospitality professional with the capacity to lead the organisation’s next phase of growth.

In his remarks, Odia pledged to strengthen service delivery, develop local talent and support the company’s expansion agenda.

He disclosed that work had already commenced on the Abuja project, describing it as the first step in the company’s broader expansion strategy.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, commended the hotel for contributing to tourism development and promoting indigenous participation in the hospitality industry.

He urged the management to sustain quality service delivery and continue expanding its operations within and outside Nigeria.
