Oluyole APC Members Protest In Ibadan Over Allege Imposition of Sadipe
..rallies support for Gbolagade Abiodun
Hundreds of protesters from All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oluyole Local Government area of Oyo State stormed the Oke Ado, Ibadan secretariat of the state on a protest over allege plans by leaders of the party to impose current house of reps member, Tolulope Akande-Sadipe through what they described as ” guided election” ahead 2027 elections.
Some of the protesters, also accused the leaders of withholding their APC membership cards after completion of the registration process insisted that they would not accept Sadipe who is to be imposed on them to contest the third term on the platform of APC in the next election.
They vehemently disagree with the leaders to allegedly imposed their preferred candidate ahead of the party’s primaries for House of Assembly and House of Representatives.
The APC members, who stormed the the party’s Secretariat in Oke Ado with placards bearing the inscriptions “We don’t want imposition; “Give us Gbolagade Abiodun; “Let us vote for our candidates” accused some of the leaders of trying to hijack democratic process of the party.
Speaking with journalists, some of the protesters alleged that certain party leaders were planning to impose candidates based on alleged instruction of the President.
They also alleged the leaders of not giving their membership cards cards which is the sole officially accepted form of identification for voting during the primaries.
They said this withholding was a deliberate strategy aimed at influencing the process in favour of their choice candidate.
Addressing newsmen at the party’s Secretariat, an aspirant for the house of Representatives and former special assistant to the former Oyo State governor, Hon Gbolagade Abiodun said that many members were increasingly worried that some individuals were secretly making efforts to impose favored candidate to contest elective positions under the platform of the party.
He, however, expressed confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the national chairman of the party, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda noting that he has consistently demonstrated a willingness to listen to the people’s concerns.
“We know President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who also emerged through primary as a democrat and a man who respects the will of the masses.
“We are appealing to him not to allow a few leaders to destroy the integrity of the APC primary process in Oluyole,” he stated.
Gbolagade Abiodun also claimed that several members at the Ward levels had face threat and intimidation for voicing against imposition of candidate over allege “shadow elections.”
The protesters vowed to challenge any effort to erode internal democracy within the All Progressives Congress, noting that the party’s constitution explicitly calls for a credible primary election whenever aspirants are unable to reach a consensus agreement.
