Prominent legal luminary and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Alhaji Ahmed Raji, on Wednesday, donated a modern Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre located at Raji-Oke Esa Memorial Comprehensive High School in Iseyin, Oyo State. The centre, built through his foundation, Raji-Esa Foundation, was handed over to the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Isiaq Oloyede, on behalf of the agency. He said the donation was borne out of the desire to alleviate the stress and challenges faced by students travelling long distances to access CBT facilities, citing the tragic accident that occurred last year which claimed lives of some students as a major motivation for his gesture. “We can not continue to put the lives of our children at risk,” he said. Prof. Oloyede, in his remarks, lauded Alhaji Raji for his kindness and immense contributions to educational development and humanity, saying “this gesture is a testament to your commitment to the growth of education in Nigeria.” Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Mr. Segun Olayiwola also lauded Alhaji Raji for his continued support to the government and the good people of Oyo State. According to him, “This donation is not surprising, given your track record of philanthropy. Your contributions to education in Oyo State are numerous and commendable.” The philanthropic efforts of the legal luminary were further highlighted, with notable mentions of his recent donation of a 500-seater capacity hall to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Iseyin Campus with his commitment to promoting education in Oyo State, particularly in the Oke-Ogun region, evident in his various initiatives. In a heartwarming gesture, Raji announced the establishment of scholarships for the Best Overall Student, Best Female Student, and Best Character Student in the school, to be named after Prof. Oloyede, Governor Makinde and Chief Imam of Iseyin, Sheikh Akeem Olajori, respectively. The move underscored his dedication to nurturing and rewarding excellence in education. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries that include the Onjo of Okeho, Oba (Dr.) Rafiu Osuolale Mustapha; former Chairman of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Adeolu Akande; Senator representing Oyo North in the National Assembly, Senator Fatai Buhari; among many others.
