The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Princess Adesola Ayoola Elegbeji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the Remo Federal Constituency by-election, after sweeping all three local governments with unprecedented figures.
The defining blow came from Sagamu LGA, the largest voting bloc in the constituency, where Elegbeji secured almost 23,000 votes a tally that made her overall victory a political landslide.

Sagamu, the Game Changer
As in previous elections, Sagamu once again proved to be the kingmaker. But this time, the margin was historic. With nearly 23,000 ballots cast for Elegbeji, APC stretched its dominance far beyond the reach of PDP.
An APC chieftain in Sagamu described the win as a “political earthquake”:
“This margin has never been seen before in Remo politics. Sagamu delivered like never before, and the people have chosen continuity with APC.”
Flashback: Narrow Battles to Landslide
The Remo Federal Constituency has a history of fierce electoral contests:
2019: APC’s Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga scraped through with 30,605 votes against PDP’s 29,858 a razor-thin margin of less than 800.
2023: Onanuga widened the lead, securing 32,686 votes, while PDP trailed with 24,658. Labour Party made an entry with 8,111 votes.
2025: Princess Elegbeji has now rewritten the records with 41,237 votes against PDP’s 14,324 the widest margin in Remo’s electoral history.
This result marks a swing of more than 26,000 votes in favor of APC, dwarfing the opposition’s presence across the three LGAs.
INEC’s Official Declaration
Announcing the result at the collation centre in Sagamu, the Returning Officer, Prof. Kazeem Olajide Bello of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), stated:
“Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes, I, Prof. Kazeem Olajide Bello, hereby declare Princess Adesola Ayoola Elegbeji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the Remo Federal Constituency by-election.”
The outcome has, however, sparked reactions within the camp of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking shortly after the declaration, a visibly displeased PDP agent at the collation centre in Sagamu said:
“We will study the results and consult with our party leadership before taking a position. What happened in Sagamu raises questions we cannot ignore. This is not the end of the road for PDP in Remo.”
Some PDP loyalists walked out of the collation hall in protest, while others vowed that the party would “bounce back stronger.”
Elegbeji will now carry the APC flag to the Green Chamber in Abuja, becoming the face of Remo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly. Political watchers say her landslide victory sets the tone for APC’s growing influence in Ogun East, with ripple effects expected as the 2027 general elections draw closer.
For the people of Ikenne, Remo North, and Sagamu, the test now lies in how swiftly she can translate this emphatic mandate into meaningful representation.
